PEACE PODCAST · Barbara Gaughen-Muller Interviews Joshua Cooper, Author, Academic, Human Rights Advocate

Joshua Cooper is a human rights advocate engaging in global and regional mechanisms guaranteeing our fundamental freedoms.

Cooper has been actively involved since the creation of the UN Human Rights Council. He was the Geneva Coordinator for the US Human Rights Network in the inaugural review mobilizing the first ever Global Town Hall featuring civil society.

Cooper serves on the National Human Rights Cities Alliance for the United States of America and participates on the Steering Committee coordinating strategic sessions as well as workshops and country-wide convenings. He drafted legislation for Hawaii to be first State of Human Rights and advocated for similar legal measures as the Cities for CEDAW, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. He does all this while creating and teaching over 100 courses at the University of Hawaii.

Cooper is also active in climate change advocacy and participated in negotiations from the Rio+20 Summit to the adoption at the UN General Assembly of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Listen to hear Joshua’s amazing Human Rights involvement and you’ll be amazed by his infectious energy and enthusiasm.
