Peace is the cornerstone of Rotary. When Rotary Clubs create peace in their communities and through their service projects, fighting disease, providing clean water and sanitation it directly has a global effect.
I am so excited to introduce Fergal McCarthy, the Peace Programs Manager at Rotary International in Evanston. One of his key responsibilities at Rotary is the continued implementation of an overarching strategic plan for the many peacebuilding activities that Rotary currently offers. The link to the brochure below is a snapshot of Rotary’s Peace work around the world.
Fergal is responsible for the organization of all Rotary International-organized peace conferences and symposia and is the main point of contact for Rotary’s growing collaboration with Welcome.US, an organization that seeks to engage Rotary members based in the US with the opportunity to sponsor families and individuals that have been displaced by conflict and civil unrest – from contexts such Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Venezuela. He is a member of the Rotary E-Club of World Peace.
Listen as we discuss his early years in Ireland, his current dreams for Rotary, and how the Rotary Action Group for Peace is one way for Rotary Clubs to have an active role in creating peace.
