ShelterBox USA President Kerri Murray, Solving the Refugee Crisis on World Refugee Day
ShelterBox USA President Kerri Murray says the global crisis of 122 million people forcibly displaced worldwide, the most in history, demands our attention and action following severe government funding cuts.
“Displacements hit women and children hardest,” Murray points out. “Women and children make up over 75% of the global displaced population. They suffer higher mortality rates, increased gender-based violence, forced marriages, human trafficking, and are far less likely to access healthcare or education. Almost half of all refugee children are out of school. For girls the longer they are displaced, the greater the chances of never returning.”
Murray explains children can get back to school, mothers can get back to work, and families can start over again with life-changing supplies, which ShelterBox has delivered to 100 countries. ShelterBox provides sturdy relief tents, solar lights that can charge phones, blankets, water filters and more vital aid items.
