Marti Cockrell shares GEMUN, Global Elementary Model United Nations, (based on the United Nations General Assembly). GEMUN started in 1989, with a total of 45 delegates role-playing 9 countries the first year. Marti has been GEMUN’s Coordinator from its beginning. GEMUN grew to have around 350

delegates from over 50 countries each year. 2027 will be GEMUN’s 38th year. Delegates have come from Texas and other states around the US, from Mexico, Guatemala, Russia, Colombia, Turkey and Taiwan. A total of over 10,700 students have registered since GEMUN began, and they, along with their parents and teachers, have learned the dynamics of the work of the United Nations.

By role-playing delegates to the United Nations, young people from varied backgrounds learn about other countries, cultures and international relationships, while developing a global perspective on real issues confronting the world community today, and acquiring many transferable skills, as you will see in the testimonies on the website.
