My dream is that we all will have peace in our lifetime. And so my late husband and I spoke about peace often, especially on the annual United Nations Day, October 24.
After speaking to the Santa Barbara, CA Montessori School, Oct. 24, 1998, The Peace Corner was born. The auditorium was filled with attentive students. When we finished our talk, a first grader raised her hand and asked a question:
“Dr. Muller you are so important, you worked at the UN, what can I do for peace?” Robert replied that peace begins with each of us.
I looked at her and at the back of the auditorium, I saw PEACE on the wall in very large letters and it sparked an idea. I asked if she would like to help me start Peace Corners in schools, homes and playgrounds? She loved this idea and so together we printed signs like the one you see in the beginning of my video. Now there are Peace Corners around the world, in different languages.
A peace Corner is a safe place to think about peace and it’s a place where no one can take your peace away from you, a quiet and safe place. Often people decorate their peace corners with books about peace and poetry like the following peace poems:
