Prophet – The Hatmaker’s Son is the inspiring, true story of Robert Muller, a man who lived through the atrocities of World War II and then dedicated his life to peace, working for the United Nations for over 40 years. Douglas Gillies shows in Chapter 8, through vivid detail, how Robert avoided being drafted in the “stupid war”. But he was arrested and stuck in a horrible, packed prison room with others. This is one chapter you will want to read twice, especially when you read how Robert used his mind and thoughts to overcome the horrors he was living in. 

 

This month, Joann Dufour shares letters, articles, and what Robert meant to her Social Studies students. Robert always answered every letter the students wrote to him. Imagine how those Dobb Ferry Students felt to receive a personal letter from the UN Assistant Secretary General. She shows how motivational Robert was through the actual letters of her students and Robert’s responses. She was a friend of Robert’s who also lived in Dobbs Ferry and volunteered at the Unitarian Universalist Office at the United Nations.  She shares their personal letters and stories from their close relationship with Robert and his wife.
