Imagine what it must be like to live in the drowning country of Kiribati, an island nation in the central Pacific Ocean. Global warming and rising sea levels threaten to wipe this entire country off the map. The country of Kiribati (pronounced “Ki-ri-bass”) is a chain of 32 islands that contain a rich culture and history. However, rising tides continue to flood homes and destroy crops, and the population of over 100,000 will need to be relocated before these islands disappear into the ocean.
Special guests speakers Brady Fergusson and Lulu DeBoer share their stories and how the Islanders are coping, hopes for the future and what we can do now.
Be sure to watch the short film, “Love Note to an Island” by Lulu DeBoer (Producer and Director). and meet Brady Fergusson (Peace Corps Member, Climate Activist). Both have spent considerable time on these islands and will provide a deeper understanding of what is happening to the country of Kiribati.
