After being diagnosed with cancer in 2025, Larry Sagen wrote the global youth anthem We Are Your Children as the legacy he hoped to leave behind. What surprised him was that the song he wrote as his legacy became a reason to live.
75 years young chronologically and 35 psychologically, Larry Sagen has spent more than five decades advocating for children and youth—as a teacher, coach, family therapist, nonprofit founder and director, community organizer, activist and social entrepreneur. Although he never had children of his own, he has devoted much of his life to supporting, empowering and giving voice to young people.
In 1990, he founded the International Youth Hall of Fame, which helped 16 communities acknowledge and celebrate more than 3,500 young people for service, leadership and compassion. He gave the program to the Points of Light Foundation in 2002. A lifelong poet and lyricist, Larry has also written music for national and international events, including the 1986 Statue of Liberty rededication and the 1990 Goodwill Games.
Today, Larry is building a global movement where children speak through song and adults truly listen—with an audacious vision of 10,000 children’s and youth choirs singing for peace around the world in 2030.
